First Snowflakes of the Season

October 12, 2006

A powerful low pressure system over the upper Great Lakes brought an early season cold snap to much of the eastern US. Snow showers were scattered around the Great Lakes region. Here in northeastern Ohio, we saw our first snowflakes of the season as snowshowers moved through the area.

Normally, a cold weather outbreak such as this would bring significant lake effect activity to northeastern Ohio, but in this situation, the winds were from the west-southwest to southwest. This kept the heaviest lake effect activity offshore over the lake.
